Well lately Ive been exploring this more artistic side of me. Im starting to really experiment with new and different aspects of photography and board design... just really tapping into some things that I never thought Id like.

Kevin and me have just been linking up and talking about all kinds of stuff, and its super rad. I really dig people that are just mellow and love to be stoked and happy. Makes life a lot easier if we all just smile. But enough of the back story, check out Cooperfish Surfboards. His resin work is second to none. If only I knew how he did it all... Santa Monica Hardcase

After searching high and low for months for a Santa Monica Hardcase, I finally found one last week. I will need one for the trip so I can take my logs with me, and there really is no other way to travel with glassed on fins. I hear that they are a pain to travel with, but I guess we will see in a few days time.

Long story short, a friend of mine, Terry Nails, recommended a guy by the name of Juan. He told me that he might have one for sale since Santa Monica is no longer making the cases. I called Juan, and sure enough he had one for me. As he says, it really is just a "glorified re-molded trashcan." So after many weeks of making plans to link up and get the case, it finally happened last Friday. He just opened up a shop in Cocoa Beach, FL. He is also the same guy that invented the molded skim board (basically brought the sport to where it is at right now), founded Oneworld Fins, and has been shaping boards for over two decades; and that is just the surface. We decided to meet at his new store in Cocoa so I could pick it up.

Little did I know that a freak hurricane squal decided that it wanted to just pour rain all day here. Driving down to Cocoa was a pain. Then once I got there, it did the same there. It was just my luck I guess. For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction... But the rain did have a nice side effect, it gave me an excuse to just chill out there, and enjoy his new shop. Here are a couple quick exposures that I snapped. Enjoy.

I look good for a 71 year old?!?!

Well El Salvador is now right around the corner, just 10 days aways. Everything is starting to come together (or fall apart, depending on how you look at it). The plans are getting finalized, the flights are getting set in stone, and the waves are expected to build with a storm off of New Zealand and another off of Tahiti. So, needless to say, I am pretty stoked right now.

But, in order to actually leave this country, one must need a passport...and well, mine had a small problem. When I opened up the package to get my new passport, I was amped. I kept thinking, this is just starting to fall right into place, no stress at all. (Big mistake.) As Im about to sign it, I notice that my birthday was not what it should be... according to my passport, I am 71 (1937). And well, for those that know me, Im not 71 years old. But if I was, I would be one sexy ageless old man. I would be a real life Benjimin Button. So, in order to get it corrected I had to send it back to the government. Hopefully it gets back to me by my trip, they said it should. If it doesnt, this funny story, will turn into a horror story.

But enough of the funny stories, the good ones are soon to follow. Beautiful waves, beautiful people, and beautiful boards are the focus. IM STOKED! Summer is here. Had a fun little logging session this morning, got a huge ding, didnt care, its fixable. Got sunburned from surfing all morning and raquet ball all afternoon (super fun game, very tiring), dont care, its fixable. Just keep the smile on the face, and keep on keeping on.

To everyone out there, enjoy yourself, get stoked, be happy, and curl toes! It is a tremendous feeling!

Its been awhile...

Well its been awhile since Ive posted up anything, and I well I didn't want you to think Ive been lazy. So here are a few photos of what Ive been up to, just hanging out with Kevin at Black Pearl.

Lately we have been hanging out, just bouncing ideas off of each other, and really just getting stoked on not just surfing, but life in general. He is a super rad guy, who really loves what he does. I can't wait to sit down and really pick his brain on how BPC was founded and how it has grown to what it is today. Plus, not to mention get my new log from him.

The Weather is just weather

Well.... here it is the dead of summer, and well.... it just doesn't seem like it. The past week has been nothing but huge washing machine surf and rain. Hopefully this system clears up and we can go back to what summer normally is, small glassy peelers. But this crazy nor-easter is just chilling right over us like it has no where to go. As it turns out, this is really only the second nor-easter of the year... crazy weather.

Bad things happen to Good people

STOLEN BOARD!
Late last night, a good friend of mine, Kevin Mileski, owner/shaper of Black Pearl Creations, had one of his logs stolen at the Cresent Beach Ramp (about 10 miles south of St. Augustine). If anyone sees the board, please contact me, or email Kevin at Kevin@blackpearlcreations.com

Local Photographer and Slider

The Pier in St. Auggie is like the spot to be to get your photo taken. There are some good waves to be had there at the right tide, but not really my favorite spot. I like a smaller crowd. But this aside, many people love this spot, including Rob Williams Rob is always snapping away if there are some glassy walls to slide. Check out his work, it is really amazing. THE PRESENT!!!!

Well after a long, long year of waiting, The Present finally came out! Ive been wanting to see this movie so badly. Ive been bugging Chris and Mik at Surf Culture on an almost daily basis waiting to see when a copy is going to come in (and I still am after seeing it).

So, knowing they had a show up in Jacksonville Beach at Landshark Cafe, I tried to round up all my friends and make it a fun night. Tinch and his wife Shelly came along with Dustin Miller, the filmer for Mikey DeTemple's movie Picaresque, and his wife, Keith Novosel, and my good friend Matt. It was a fun time just getting to hang out and enjoy ourselves.

The show was pretty rad too; had Mattson 2 playing live to get everything going, and then just dove straight into the movie. For $8 a ticket, I wish it was in a better venue, but hey, Im not going to complain (no one listens when I do anyways). I was just stoked to be there and see something new and different. The Seedling and Sprout are getting worn out. It was a really good movie. It surprised me a little, but on the whole, amazing! Some of the biggest airs and longest gnarliest tens Ive seen in awhile. I really think T.Moe made a complete surf film that will attract not just sliders, but also the groms that idealize Dane. I cant wait to buy the movie and watch it again. As usual, it had an amazing soundtrack, and like I said earlier, just a crazy good movie.
